Terms of Service

Last updated 2026-08-16. These terms are an agreement between you and the operator of Policon, and they apply every time you use the service.

Acceptance

By creating an account, or by using Policon at all, you agree to these terms and to the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service. Policon is built and run by one person, not a company; "we" and "us" in this document mean that operator.

Your account

  • You must be at least 16 years old. If you are under 16, you may not hold an account, and we will remove one we find.
  • You must provide accurate registration information and are responsible for keeping your password secure.
  • One account per person. Registration with disposable email addresses is refused, and creating extra accounts to manipulate matchmaking or ratings is a violation (see Conduct).
  • You are responsible for everything that happens under your account, including anything said in a debate from it.

Debates are on the record

  • Your microphone audio is transcribed and your arguments are evaluated by an AI judge so both debaters can receive live scores and a match report. This is the same disclosure shown before your first debate.
  • A debate is recorded as transcript, not audio. The transcript and the judged result are visible to the other participant, and the match report can be read by anyone who has its link. Do not say things in a debate you are not prepared to have on the record.
  • While it is running, a debate can be watched live on Policon TV by anyone with its code, or by anyone who tunes in at random: video, audio, live scoring and the transcript, under your handle and profile. Viewers cannot speak, appear, or take part.
  • AI scores can be imperfect. They evaluate argument quality, not political viewpoint; a score is not an endorsement or condemnation of any position.
  • You may not separately record, capture, or redistribute another participant's audio or likeness from a debate.

Your content, and what you let us do with it

You keep ownership of the arguments and opinions you express. So that the service can exist at all, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, transferable and sublicensable licence to host, store, transcribe, translate, excerpt, reproduce, publish, display, and transmit that content, together with your handle, in order to:

  • run the service: judge the debate, build the match report, keep your history, and show reports to the people entitled to read them, as described in the Privacy Policy;
  • broadcast a debate live on Policon TV while it is happening, including your video, your audio, the live scoring and the transcript, under your handle, and feature debates elsewhere inside the product; and
  • promote Policon outside the site, in clips, quotations, screenshots, and excerpts of debate content, including on third-party platforms. Anything we publish off the site for promotion has your handle removed, unless you have agreed to be named.

The licence survives the end of your account for material already published under it, because a published report cannot be unpublished retroactively from everyone who has the link. No payment is owed to you for any of this. Where the law lets you waive moral rights in the content, you do so to that extent; where it does not, you agree not to assert them in a way that would block the uses above.

Conduct

You agree not to, on or through the service:

  • Harass, threaten, or direct hateful or discriminatory abuse at another user. Arguing hard against a position is the product; abusing the person is a violation.
  • Circumvent matchmaking, rating, or moderation systems: impersonation, ban evasion, automated play, or feeding rating to one account from another.
  • Scrape, crawl, or bulk-collect content or accounts, or use the service to train a machine learning system.
  • Probe, load-test, reverse engineer, or interfere with the service or its infrastructure.
  • Transmit unlawful content or use the service for any unlawful purpose.

Reports, blocks, and moderation

  • You can report another user, from a match or from their profile, and you can block them; blocking also removes any friendship between you.
  • Reports and automated flags go to a moderation queue and are reviewed by a person. Moderation is not guaranteed to be immediate or to catch everything: review happens, but not in real time, and you should not rely on it as protection during a live debate. Blocking is immediate and is yours to use.
  • An account found in violation may be suspended or removed, with the reason recorded against the account. Suspension blocks login, matchmaking, and session access.
  • We may remove, withhold, or decline to feature any content, and we are not obliged to explain a moderation decision or to hold a hearing before making one.

Ratings and records

Your rating, match history, and stats are computed from your play. Ratings exist to make matches even, and keeping them meaningful is at our discretion: we may recompute, adjust, or void ratings affected by cheating, abuse, or error. Judging results and rating adjustments are final, and there is no guaranteed right of appeal. None of it is guaranteed to be permanent, portable, or restorable if lost to a service issue.

The service can change

Policon is offered as it is and as available. We may change, add, limit, suspend, or discontinue any part of it, including features, allowances, and the service as a whole, at any time and without owing you anything for the change. We do not promise any level of uptime, that a debate will find you an opponent, or that any particular match will run to completion.

Price

Policon is free to use right now. Paid subscriptions are planned, and if they arrive the free tier will remain but will be more limited. Nothing on this page promises a price, and no paid tier exists today. Every account has a fair-use allowance covering the transcription and judging its debates consume; it is generous, and it exists to stop abuse rather than to meter ordinary play. We may introduce, change, or withdraw charges, allowances, and limits at any time, with notice before any charge applies to you.

Termination

You may stop using the service at any time, and you may delete your account yourself from the account page, immediately and irreversibly. A suspended account cannot be deleted that way: write to us and it will be handled by hand, once there is nothing left to defend. We may suspend or terminate an account for a violation of these terms, or where we reasonably believe it is necessary to protect the service or other users, at our discretion and with notice where practical. On termination your access ends; match reports, safety records, and the licence above continue as described in this document and in the Privacy Policy.

Disclaimers

The service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranty of any kind. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, and we do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.

Debates happen between strangers, and what another user says is theirs, not ours. AI transcription and AI judging are imperfect by nature and are not advice of any kind. We are not responsible for the conduct of other users, on or off the service.

Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, for lost data, lost ratings, lost opportunity, or reputational harm arising from your use of the service. Our total liability to you for all claims taken together is limited to the greater of the amount you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or EUR 100.

Nothing here excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or under the mandatory consumer protection law that applies to you. Where such law gives you rights, those rights stand and the limits above apply only as far as that law permits.

Your responsibility to us

To the extent the law allows, you are responsible for the claims, losses, and costs we incur because of content you submit, your breach of these terms, or your unlawful use of the service, and you will cover them.

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of Sweden, and the courts of Sweden have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them or from your use of the service. If you are a consumer resident in the European Union, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory law of your own country, and you may also bring proceedings there.

Before starting formal proceedings, please write to contact@policon.net and give us 30 days to resolve the matter. Most problems are a mistake rather than a dispute.

General

  • These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between us about the service.
  • If any part of them is unenforceable, the rest continues to apply, and the unenforceable part is read down to the narrowest change that makes it valid.
  • Not enforcing a term on one occasion is not a waiver of it.
  • We may transfer this agreement to whoever operates Policon in future; you may not transfer yours.
  • We give notice by email to your registered address or by posting on the site, and either counts as reaching you.
  • The English text of these terms governs, whatever language you read them in.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, and if they change materially we will update the date above. Continued use of the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
